Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took part in a military expedition. A man from the idolaters challenged a man from the Muslims to single combat, and the idolater killed that Muslim. Then another man from the Muslims came out against him, and the idolater killed him too. Then that man came and stood before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "What are you fighting for?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Our religion is that we fight people until they bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and His Messenger, and that we fulfil the right of Allah Almighty in full." The man said: "By Allah, this is good indeed. I believe in it." Then he turned and went over to the Muslims, then he charged at the idolaters and kept fighting until he was killed. His body was brought and placed beside his two companions whom he had killed before that. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Of the people of Paradise, these are the ones with the greatest love for one another."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Ibn al-Mubarak's hearing from al-Mas'udi is sound, so, if Allah wills, this hadith is sahih (authentic); its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
