Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Glad tidings to those who remember Allah abundantly while striving in jihad in the way of Allah, for in return for every word they will receive seventy thousand good deeds, each of which will be multiplied tenfold, and what they will receive besides this from Allah Almighty (as additional reward) is over and above that." It was said: "O Messenger of Allah! What about spending?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Spending is likewise." The narrator Abd al-Rahman says: I asked Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him): "Is the reward of spending only seven hundredfold?" Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Your understanding is little. That reward is when people provide funds while they themselves remain at home among their families and do not take part in fighting. When they both take part in fighting and spend, then Allah Almighty has hidden for them, from the treasures of His mercy, what is beyond the knowledge and description of His servants. These people are the party of Allah, and the party of Allah are the ones who prevail."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator who is not named.
