Sayyiduna al-Faltan bin Asim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when revelation began to descend upon him. When revelation began to descend upon him, his gaze would remain fixed in one direction, his eyes would be open, and his hearing and heart would be completely devoted to what was coming from Allah Almighty. The narrator says: We used to recognise that state. The narrator says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the scribe: "Write: 'Not equal are those of the believers who sit (at home) and those who strive in the way of Allah.'" The narrator says: Then a blind man stood up and said: "O Messenger of Allah! What is our fault?" At that moment Allah Almighty began to send down revelation. We said to that blind man: "Revelation is descending upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." The man feared that revelation might descend against him because of this matter of his, so he kept standing and kept saying: "I seek refuge from the anger of the Messenger of Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the scribe: "Write: '(That is, those who sit at home) who are not afflicted with any disability.'"
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy). Al-Tabarani recorded it, except that he narrated these words: "That man kept standing and kept saying: 'I repent to Allah Almighty.'" (Al-Haythami says:) I say: The remaining routes of this narration will come in the chapter on Tafsir.
