Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reports concerning the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): When this verse was revealed: "When the help of Allah and the victory come," the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited it and recited the whole surah, then he said: "The other people are in one place, and I and my Companions are in one place." He also said: "There is no emigration (hijrah) after the Conquest, but there remain jihad and intention." (The narrator says:) Marwan said to Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him): "You are lying." At that time Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) were with Marwan, sitting with him on the couch. Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "If these two wished, they too could narrate this hadith to you; but this one fears that you will remove him from the post of chief ('arif) of his people, and this other one fears that you will remove him from collecting the charity (sadaqah)." These two remained silent. Marwan raised his whip to strike Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him). When the two of them saw this, they both said: "He is telling the truth."
Ahmad recorded it, and al-Tabarani recorded it in a greatly abridged form. The narrators of Ahmad are the narrators of the Sahih.
