وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْبَهِيِّ مَوْلَى الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ : كُنْتُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَمَرْوَانُ يَخْطُبُ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ : وَاللَّهِ مَا اسْتَخْلَفَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحَدًا مِنْ أَهْلِهِ فَقَالَ مَرْوَانُ : أَنْتَ الَّذِي نَزَلَتْ فِيكَ : وَالَّذِي قَالَ لِوَالِدَيْهِ أُفٍّ لَكُمَا فَقَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ : كَذَبْتَ ، وَلَكِنْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - لَعَنَ أَبَاكَ .
رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ وَإِسْنَادُهُ حَسَنٌ .

Abdullah al-Bahi, the freed slave of Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates: I was in the mosque while Marwan was delivering the sermon. Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "By Allah! Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) did not appoint anyone from his family as his deputy (or successor)." Marwan said: "You are the one about whom this verse was revealed: 'And the one who said to his parents: Uff to you both.'" Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You have lied! Rather, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed your father."
