Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 91

Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I said: "O Messenger of Allah! By the One who sent you with the truth, sometimes such a thought arises in my mind that being burnt into charcoal would be dearer to me than speaking about that thought." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "All praise belongs to Allah Almighty for this: that Satan has despaired of being worshipped in this land of mine; however, he is now content with the trivial things among your deeds (that is, sins and shortcomings)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. This report is narrated by Dharr bin Abdullah from Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him), although he did not live in the time of Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him).
