In one narration it is reported from Sayyiduna Nu'man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: When Sayyiduna Zayd bin Kharijah (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, I kept waiting for Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) to come out; I thought he must be offering two rak'ahs. The cloth was removed from Zayd bin Kharijah's face, and he said: "Al-salamu alaykum, al-salamu alaykum (Peace be upon you, peace be upon you)." The people of the house were talking. The narrator says: I was praying at that time, and I said: "Subhan Allah, Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah, glory be to Allah)." Then he said: "Be silent, be silent." The rest of the narration is as before. Al-Tabarani recorded all of these narrations in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat in a much more abridged form, transmitted with two chains. In al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, the narrators of one of these two are thiqat (trustworthy).
