Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When perfume is brought to one of you, let him apply some of it, and when halwa (or something sweet) is brought, let him partake of it."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat from his teacher. Its chain contains Fadalah bin Husayn, about whom Abu Hatim said: He is mudtarib al-hadith (inconsistent in hadith); and another narrator is Ibrahim bin Ar'arah, whom I do not know. The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
Al-Bazzar recorded it with these words: "When perfume is placed in front of one of you, let him apply some of it." Its chain does not contain the narrator Ibrahim bin Ar'arah.
