وَعَنْ جَابِرٍ أَنَّ رَاهِبًا أَهْدَى لِلنَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - جُبَّةَ سُنْدُسٍ فَلَبِسَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - ثُمَّ أَتَى الْبَيْتَ فَوَضَعَهَا ، وَحَسَّ بِوَفْدٍ أَتَوْهُ ، فَأَمَرَهُ عُمَرُ - عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ - أَنْ يَلْبَسَ الْجُبَّةَ لِقُدُومِ الْوَفْدِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " لَا يَصْلُحُ لَنَا لِبَاسُهَا فِي الدُّنْيَا ، وَيَصْلُحُ لَنَا فِي الْآخِرَةِ ، وَلَكِنْ خُذْهَا يَا عُمَرُ " . قَالَ : تَكْرَهُهَا وَآخُذُهَا ؟ قَالَ : " إِنِّي لَا آمُرُكَ أَنْ تَلْبَسَهَا وَلَكِنْ أَرْسِلْ بِهَا إِلَى أَرْضِ فَارِسَ فَتُصِيبَ بِهَا مَالًا " . فَأَرْسَلَ بِهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - إِلَى النَّجَاشِيِّ وَكَانَ قَدْ أَحْسَنَ إِلَى مَنْ فَرَّ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A monk presented the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with a cloak (jubbah) of fine silk (sundus) as a gift. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wore it; then he went home and took it off. He learned that a delegation was arriving, so Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) requested him to put on the cloak because the delegation was coming. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not fitting for us to wear it in this world; it will be fitting for us in the Hereafter. O Umar, you take it." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You dislike it, so should I take it?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am not telling you to wear it; rather, send it to the land of Persia and obtain wealth from it." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent that cloak to the Negus (al-Najashi), because he had treated well those companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who had gone to him.
