Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 86

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The people said: "O Messenger of Allah! When we are with you, we are in a particular state, and when we part from you, that state changes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How is your relationship with your Prophet?" They said: "In private and in public (in every state), you (peace and blessings be upon him) are our Prophet." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This (that is, the changing of states) is not hypocrisy." Abu Ya'la and al-Bazzar recorded it, except that the wording of al-Bazzar is: "How is your relationship with your Lord?" The people said: "In private and in public (in every state), Allah Almighty is our Lord."
The narrators of Abu Ya'la are the narrators of the Sahih.
