Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 8597

Nufay', the freed slave of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), says: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) wore the finest white clothes of all people and used the most pleasant fragrance of all people.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it. This narrator named Nufay' was mentioned by Ibn Abi Hatim, who did not criticise him; likewise Sulayman bin Mina is a narrator (of it). The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy). However, Ibn Abi Hatim said that al-Mas'udi did not hear from Sulayman, so
this report is mursal (with a broken chain). Abu Nu'aym heard from al-Mas'udi before he suffered from confusion (ikhtilat).
