Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever is held back from a task by an evil omen has committed shirk." The people said: "O Messenger of Allah! What is its expiation?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A person should say: 'O Allah, there is no good except the good You grant, there is no omen except what You decree, and there is no god besides You.'"
Imam Ahmad and Imam al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Ibn Lahi'ah, whose hadith is hasan (good), yet there is weakness in him. The rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
