Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate: A man named Abu Humayd came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from al-Naqi' (a place), bringing a vessel which had milk in it; this was in the daytime. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Why did you not cover it, even if only by placing a stick across it? (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: the hadith narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) is in the Sahih.
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy). Some reports on this theme will come later in the chapter on manners, if Allah wills.
