Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: In the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Qays bin Sa'd bin Ubadah passed by us. We were afflicted with hunger, and he slaughtered seven camels for us. Then we reached the seashore, and there was a huge fish. We stayed there for three days, and then we loaded as much of its fat as we wished into waterskins and containers. Then we set off until we came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him about it. The people said: "Had we known that we would reach the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) before the meat went bad, we would have wished to have some of it with us." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The hadith about the "Anbar" (a huge fish) is mentioned in the "Sahih," but without this wording.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Abdullah bin Salih, the scribe of al-Layth; Abd al-Malik bin Shu'ayb bin al-Layth says: He is thiqah (trustworthy) and reliable (ma'mun). Imam Ahmad and others declared him da'if (weak). I do not know the narrator named Abu Hamzah al-Khawlani. The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
