Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 7815

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "When a woman is divorced and it is thought that her menstruation has now stopped, but this is not clear from her, she will wait for one year. If she does not menstruate during that time, then after the year has passed she will observe a waiting period of a further three months. If she menstruates during those three months, then she will observe the waiting period by menstrual cycles. But if she menstruated and that menstruation was not completed, and this happened after the three months following the year had passed, then that woman will not hasten in her own matter until she knows whether her menstruation has been completed or not."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Abd al-Karim al-Jazari, whose case is different: he says, "The students of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this," and he did not name any of those students.
