Bishr bin Ubaydullah, who was an old elder, said: We were with Tawus at a place, and he asked: What is this matter? A man told him: These are people whom Ibn Hisham has arrested for some offence and put iron collars around their necks. The narrator said: Then I heard Tawus narrate from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever introduces something new into this Ummah will not die until that same thing befalls him." Bishr bin Ubaydullah said: I saw Ibn Hisham when he was dismissed; the officials of al-Walid bin Abd al-Malik came and put an iron collar around Ibn Hisham's neck.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Bishr bin Ubaydullah, about whom Ibn Hibban said: He is munkar al-hadith (his narrations are rejected).
