Sayyiduna Kardam bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I and a cousin of mine named Abu Tha'labah set out (on a journey) on a hot day. I was wearing shoes and he had none. He said: "Give me your shoes!" I said: "No! But if you marry your daughter to me (then I will give them)." He said: "Give them to me! I have married her to you." When we returned, he sent my shoes back to me and said: "You have no wife with us." This was mentioned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Leave that woman! There is no good for you in her." I said: "O Messenger of Allah! I made a vow that I would sacrifice my camels at such-and-such a place." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fulfil your vow! A vow has no standing when it involves severing ties of kinship, or concerns something the person does not own."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Aziz bin Ubaydullah, who is da'if (weak).
