Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A virgin shall not be married until her permission is sought, and her permission is her silence. A previously married woman (thayyib) shall act according to her own wishes, so long as she does not incline towards something displeasing; but if she inclines towards something displeasing while her guardians are inclining towards what is agreeable, then the matter shall be referred to the ruler." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
This narration is recorded in the "Sahih" in abridged form.
At-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Ishaq bin Rahawayh said: I said to Isa bin Yunus bin Abi Ishaq: Is the end of the hadith part of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) words? He said: This is how al-Awza'i narrated it to us. Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except Ibrahim bin Murrah, who is nevertheless thiqah (trustworthy).
