Sayyiduna Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The bitterest regrets of the children of Adam concern three things. One is a man who has land that is irrigated, and he has a camel on which he draws water to irrigate his land; when his land is in severe need of water and is about to bring forth its fruit, his camel dies. He feels regret over his camel, knowing that he will not find another like it, and he also feels regret over the fruit of his land, that it will spoil before he can find some other means. Another is a man who rides a fine horse and meets the disbelievers; when the two sides close in on each other and the enemy of Allah is routed, the man rides ahead on his horse, until, just as he is about to reach the enemy, his horse's leg breaks. He dismounts, and at that moment he feels regret that he will not find another horse like it, and he also feels regret over the victory he was about to win and has missed, which had been within his reach. And another is a man who has a wife whose appearance and religion both please him; she gives birth to a child and then dies during her postnatal bleeding (nifas). That man feels regret over his wife, thinking he will not find another wife like her, and he also feels regret over his child, fearing the child will perish before he finds someone to nurse it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is the greatest of these regrets."
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and at-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain is hasan (good); there is no (weak) narrator in it other than Sa'id bin Bashir, and a group of scholars declared him trustworthy.
