Salim bin Abdullah states: A man came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and said to him: "Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) permits the mut'ah marriage." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah)! I did not think Ibn Abbas would do such a thing." The people said: "Yes, he does." So Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was (among us), Ibn Abbas was only a young boy." Then Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade it to us, and we are not fornicators."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except al-Mu'afa bin Sulayman, who is thiqah (trustworthy).
