It is reported about Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that an inheritance case was brought before him involving two paternal cousins, one of whom was also a maternal half-brother. People told him that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) had given him the entire estate. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: May Allah Almighty have mercy on Abdullah bin Mas'ud; he was a jurist, but I will first give the maternal half-brother his share, and then divide the estate between the two of them.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, al-Harith, who is da'if (weak), though he has also been declared trustworthy.
