Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "Do you not know that when two men brought a case before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and both agreed to come at an appointed time, and one of them came and the other did not, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave judgment in favour of the one who came, against the one who had not come?" Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "That would be in a case concerning a riding animal, a camel, a goat or the like, whereas the disagreement between us and you concerns governing the people."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Khalid bin Nafi' al-Ash'ari. Abu Hatim said: He is not strong; his hadith is to be written down. The Imams declared him da'if (weak).
