Sayyiduna al-Nawwas bin Sam'an al-Kilabi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The she-camel of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), al-Jad'a', was stolen. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If Allah Almighty returns her to me, I will surely give thanks to my Lord." That she-camel ended up with one of the Arab tribes, among whom was a Muslim woman. When the camels went out to graze, she would graze apart on her own, and when the camels knelt down, she would kneel apart on her own, laying her neck on the ground. The woman thought: "It seems this she-camel is somehow familiar." Allah Almighty put it into her mind that she could escape riding on her. She found the people off their guard, so she mounted the she-camel, set her moving, and riding on her reached Madinah by morning. When the Muslims saw her, they were delighted and walked alongside her until they came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw her, he said: "All praise belongs to Allah alone." The woman said: "O Messenger of Allah! I vowed that if Allah Almighty saved me on this she-camel, I would sacrifice her and feed her meat to the poor." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What a bad reward you have given her! Your vow can only be about what you own." The narrator said: We kept waiting to see whether the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would fast or pray. The people thought that perhaps he had forgotten, and they said: "O Messenger of Allah! You said that if Allah Almighty returned this she-camel to you, you would give thanks to Allah Almighty." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Did I not say: 'All praise belongs to Allah alone'?"
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Amr bin Waqid al-Qurashi, whom Muhammad bin al-Mubarak al-Suri declared thiqah (trustworthy), but this view of his has been rejected; the Imams declared this narrator da'if (weak), and his hadith was abandoned (matruk).
