عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ حَيْدَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - مَرَّ بِقَوْمٍ يَتَرَامَوْنَ وَهُمْ يَحْلِفُونَ : أَخْطَأْتَ وَاللَّهِ أَصَبْتَ وَاللَّهِ . فَلَمَّا رَأَوْا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - أَمْسَكُوا فَقَالَ : " ارْمُوا ، فَإِنَّمَا أَيْمَانُ الرُّمَاةِ لَغْوٌ لَا حِنْثَ فِيهَا ، وَلَا كَفَّارَةَ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الصَّغِيرِ ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ إِلَّا أَنَّ شَيْخَ الطَّبَرَانِيِّ يُوسُفَ بْنَ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ الثَّقَفِيَّ لَمْ أَجِدْ مَنْ وَثَّقَهُ ، وَلَا جَرَّحَهُ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الصَّغِيرِ ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ إِلَّا أَنَّ شَيْخَ الطَّبَرَانِيِّ يُوسُفَ بْنَ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ الثَّقَفِيَّ لَمْ أَجِدْ مَنْ وَثَّقَهُ ، وَلَا جَرَّحَهُ .
Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Haydah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by some people who were competing in archery and swearing oaths as they went: "By Allah, you missed!" "By Allah, you hit!" When they saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), they stopped. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: "Keep shooting, for the oaths of archers are laghw (idle); there is no breaking of an oath in them and no expiation."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy), except for al-Tabarani's teacher Yusuf bin Ya'qub bin Abd al-Aziz al-Thaqafi: I have not found anyone who declared him trustworthy or criticised him.
