Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 6888

Sayyiduna Shaddad bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever takes a hand-span of land (unlawfully) will be made to wear a collar of it from seven earths, and whoever is killed while protecting his property is a martyr."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Qaza'ah bin Suwayd, whom Ibn Adi and others declared thiqah (trustworthy), while Ahmad and others declared him da'if (weak).
