Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) states: Qutaylah bint Abd al-Uzza bin As'ad bin Malik bin Hisl came to her daughter Sayyidah Asma' bint Abi Bakr with gifts, which included lizards (dabb), lupine (turmus, a kind of grain that is bitter) and ghee. Sayyidah Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her) refused to accept her gift and to let her into her house. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this, so Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "Allah Almighty does not forbid you regarding those who have not fought you over religion" to the end of the verse. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed her to accept that woman's gift and to let her into her house.
Imam Ahmad recorded it, and Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and he declared it good (jayyid). He recorded these words: Qutaylah bint Abd al-Uzza came. The chain of this narration contains a narrator, Mus'ab bin Thabit, whom Imam Ahmad and others declared da'if (weak), while Ibn Hibban declared him thiqah (trustworthy).
