Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered a prayer, and when he had finished it, he asked: "Is there anyone here from Banu so-and-so?" No one answered him. Then he asked: "Is there anyone here from Banu so-and-so?" No one answered him. Then he asked: "Is there anyone here from Banu so-and-so?" A man said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah! So-and-so is here." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A companion of yours has been held back at the gate of Paradise because of the debt binding upon him." A man said: "O Messenger of Allah! His debt is upon me."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; the chain of this report contains a narrator, Aslam bin Sahl al-Wasiti. Imam al-Dhahabi says: Imam al-Daraqutni (may Allah have mercy on him) called him "layyin" (soft), and this is a mild expression for declaring someone weak. The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
