Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 64

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wrote in a letter to al-Mundhir bin Sawa: "Whoever performs our prayer and eats our slaughtered meat will be counted a Muslim, and the protection of Allah and of His Messenger will be (established) for him."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, al-Hasan bin Idris al-Hulwani. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I have not seen anyone who has mentioned him. Moreover, this report is narrated by Abu Ubaydah from his father (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him)), although he (that is, Abu Ubaydah) did not hear from his father (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him)).
