It is reported about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he used to order the killing of snakes, until Sayyiduna Abu Lubabah bin Abd al-Mundhir (may Allah be pleased with him) told him that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had forbidden killing the snakes that live in houses. He also related: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went forward to touch the Black Stone, and a scorpion stung him. He said: What is the matter with you? May Allah Almighty curse you! If you were to spare anyone, you would have spared the Prophet." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The narration about killing snakes is mentioned in the "Sahih".
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator whom I do not know.
