Sayyiduna Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and he was troubled. I said: O Messenger of Allah, what is the matter with you? He said: Jibril promised me that he would come to me, but he has not come to me for three days. There was a dog there. Sayyiduna Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I put my hand on my head and cried out. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What is the matter? I said: A dog! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave an order concerning it, and it was killed. Then Sayyiduna Jibril came to him, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Why did you not come to me, when you had made a promise to me and you have never broken a promise? He replied: We do not enter a house in which there is a dog or images."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Khalid bin Yazid al-Umari, and he is extremely da'if (weak). (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: This narration is also reported from him through another chain, which Ahmad recorded with a good chain; that narration will come later.
