Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to forbid us from eating the meat of our sacrifices beyond three days. The narrator says: I went on a journey, then I returned to my family, and that was some days after Eid al-Adha. My wife brought me a dish in which she had prepared qadid (dried meat). I asked her: Where did this qadid come from? She replied: It is from the meat of our sacrifice. I said to her: Did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) not forbid us from eating it beyond three days? That woman said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had given the people permission after that. Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I did not believe her. I sent a message to my brother Qatadah bin al-Nu'man, who was a Companion who fought at Badr, and asked him about this. He sent back a message: Eat your food; that woman has spoken the truth. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has granted the Muslims a concession in this matter. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The hadith of Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) is recorded in the "Sahih"; I have cited this report because it is reported with reference to his wife.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
