Majma al-Zawaid 5786 — Encouragement to live in Madinah
عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَيَأْتِيَنَّ عَلَى أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ زَمَانٌ يَنْطَلِقُ النَّاسُ مِنْهَا إِلَى الْآفَاقِ يَلْتَمِسُونَ الرَّخَاءَ فَيَجِدُونَ رَخَاءً ، ثُمَّ يَأْتُونَ فَيَتَحَمَّلُونَ بِأَهْلِيهِمْ إِلَى الرَّخَاءِ ، وَالْمَدِينَةُ خَيْرٌ لَهُمْ لَوْ كَانُوا يَعْلَمُونَ " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَالْبَزَّارُ ، وَرِجَالُ الْبَزَّارِ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A time will come upon the people of Madinah when people will leave it for various regions, seeking prosperity, and they will find prosperity. Then they will come and take their families away with them to that prosperity, although Madinah would have been better for them, if only they knew."
