Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 5592

Abu Ubaydah bin Abdullah bin Zam'ah narrates: Sayyidah Umm Qays bint Mihsan (may Allah be pleased with her), who was a neighbour of theirs, narrated to me. She said: Sayyiduna Ukkashah bin Mihsan (may Allah be pleased with him) left my house with some men of Banu Asad on the evening of the Day of Sacrifice, wearing their shirts. When they came back to me at nightfall, their shirts were in their hands, carrying them (that is, they had taken them off). She said: I said: "O Ukkashah, what is the matter with you? When you left you were wearing your shirts, and now that you have come back you are carrying your shirts in your hands." He said: "All is well, O Umm Qays. This is a day for which we were given a concession: once we have stoned the Jamrah, we become free of every restriction of ihram, except the matter of women, which remains until we perform tawaf of the House. But when evening came and we had not performed tawaf of the House, we returned to the state of ihram, as we were before stoning the Jamrah, and we will remain so until we perform tawaf of the House; and we have not yet performed it. That is why you see our shirts (in our hands)."
Imam Ahmad and Imam al-Tabarani recorded it, the latter in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; the narrators of Imam Ahmad are thiqat (trustworthy).
