Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 5584

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) states that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sayyiduna Jibril took Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) to Jamrat al-Aqabah. Satan confronted him, so Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) threw seven pebbles at him, and he (sank into the ground). Then he came to the middle Jamrah, and Satan confronted him; he threw seven pebbles at him and he sank. Then he came to the farthest Jamrah and threw seven pebbles at him, and he sank. Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) intended to sacrifice his son, Sayyiduna Ishaq (peace be upon him) (this is what is mentioned in the text, but the correct position is that he intended to sacrifice Sayyiduna Isma'il (peace be upon him)), and he said to his father: 'O my dear father, when you are about to sacrifice me, tie me up, because if I struggle, drops of my blood will splash on you.' Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) tied him up. When he had sharpened the knife and intended to sacrifice him, it was called out to him from behind: 'O Ibrahim! You have fulfilled the vision.'"
Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains Ata' bin al-Sa'ib, who suffered from confusion (ikhtilat) in his memory.
