Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 5568

Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that on the day of Arafah the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O people! Indeed, Allah Almighty has shown you favour on this day and has forgiven you, except that the ruling on the dealings among yourselves is different. He has handed over the wrongdoer among you to the righteous among you, and has given the righteous among you what he asked for. So depart in the name of Allah." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached Muzdalifah, he said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty has forgiven the righteous among you and accepted the intercession of the righteous among you for the wicked among you. Mercy descends and covers them all, then forgiveness spreads across the earth and falls upon every repentant person who guards his tongue and his hand. Iblis and his army were on the mountain of Arafat, watching what Allah Almighty was doing with these people. When forgiveness descended, Iblis and his army began to wail and lament, and he said: 'For a long time I kept trying to lead these people astray, but then forgiveness came and enveloped them.' Then, as those devils scatter here and there, they cry out for destruction and ruin (that is, they wail and lament)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator who is not named, and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
