Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 5483

Zayd bin Jubayr narrates: A man mentioned the Black Stone in front of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and said that if something comes between me and it, preventing me from wiping my hand over it, and we are unable to wipe our hands over it (what is the ruling?). Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "When we were unable to wipe our hands over it, we would tap it with sticks."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir with various chains, and some of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
