عَنْ صَدَقَةَ الدِّمَشْقِيِّ قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ يَسْأَلُهُ عَنِ الصَّوْمِ ؟ فَقَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ مِنْ أَفْضَلِ الصِّيَامِ صِيَامَ أَخِي دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ كَانَ يَصُومُ يَوْمًا وَيُفْطِرُ يَوْمًا " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَصَدَقَةُ ضَعِيفٌ ، وَإِنْ كَانَ فِيهِ بَعْضُ تَوْثِيقٍ ، وَلَمْ يُدْرِكِ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ .

Sadaqah al-Dimashqi narrated: A man came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) and asked him about fasting. He said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: "Among the most virtuous ways of fasting is the way of my brother Sayyiduna Dawud (peace be upon him); he used to keep a (voluntary) fast one day and not fast the next."
Imam Ahmad recorded it. The narrator Sadaqah is da'if (weak), even though some declaration of trustworthiness is found regarding him, and he did not live in the time of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both).
