Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 5069

وَعَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " مَنْ مَاتَ وَعَلَيْهِ صِيَامٌ فَلْيَصُمْ عَنْهُ وَلِيُّهُ إِنْ شَاءَ " .
قُلْتُ : هُوَ فِي الصَّحِيحِ خَلَا قَوْلِهِ : " إِنْ شَاءَ " .
رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ ، وَإِسْنَادُهُ حَسَنٌ .
Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever dies while owing fasts, if his guardian wishes, let him fast on his behalf." (Allamah Haythami says:) I say:
This narration is recorded in the Sahih, but it does not contain the words: "if he wishes."
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its chain is hasan (good).
