وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ عَلِيلٌ ، فَمُرْنِي بِلَيْلَةٍ لَعَلَّ اللَّهَ يُوَفِّقُنِي فِيهَا لِلَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ . فَقَالَ : " عَلَيْكَ بِالسَّابِعَةِ " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and submitted: "O Prophet of Allah! I am a very old, sick man. Direct me to one particular night, so that Allah Almighty may grant me Laylat al-Qadr on that night." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hold fast to the seventh night."
