Sayyiduna Ubayd (may Allah be pleased with him), the freed slave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), narrates: Two women were fasting, and a man said: "O Messenger of Allah! Two women here are fasting, and they are close to dying of thirst." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned away from him, or remained silent. The man repeated what he had said (the narrator says: the narration contains these words: this was at midday). He said: "O Prophet of Allah! By Allah, they will die, or they are close to dying." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Call them both." The narrator says: Then the two women came, and a cup or a vessel was brought. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to one of them: "Vomit." She vomited pus, blood and flesh until half the cup was filled. Then he said to the other woman: "You vomit too." She too vomited blood, pus and flesh until the cup was filled. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "These two fasted from what Allah Almighty had made lawful for them, and did not fast from what Allah Almighty has made unlawful for them. One of them came and sat with the other, and the two of them began eating the flesh of people (that is, they began backbiting)."
