Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 4994

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had himself cupped while fasting and in the state of ihram. He fainted, and that is why cupping was disliked for the fasting person. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: There is a hadith from him in the Sahih that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had himself cupped while he was fasting and in the state of ihram; in that narration he did not mention its being disliked.
Ahmad, Abu Ya'la, al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Nasr bin Bab, about whom there has been much criticism. Ahmad declared him thiqah (trustworthy).
