Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No earner has earned anything like the excellence of knowledge; knowledge guides its companion (that is, the person of knowledge) to guidance or turns him away from ruin. And a man's religion does not become upright until his deeds become upright."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, but he recorded the word "intellect" in it in place of "deeds". Its chain contains Abd al-Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam, who is da'if (weak).
