وَعَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَفْضَلُ الْعِبَادَةِ الْفِقْهُ ، وَأَفْضَلُ الدِّينِ الْوَرَعُ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الثَّلَاثَةِ ، وَفِيهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، ضَعَّفُوهُ لِسُوءِ حِفْظِهِ .

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The most excellent worship is acquiring understanding (that is, knowledge) (of religious rulings), and the most excellent religion (that is, practice) is scrupulous piety."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in all three books; its chain contains Muhammad bin Abi Layla, whom the scholars declared weak because of his poor memory.
