Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man from the Ansar came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! All my wealth is charity." The narrator says: His parents became poor and were reduced to sitting in destitution. Then both of them came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Our son had more wealth than anyone among the Ansar; he has given all his wealth in charity, and now we have become poor and are reduced to destitution." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your son's charity will return to the two of you." Then, when both of them passed away, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a message to their son: "Now take back the charity, for charity is not passed on by inheritance, nor is it transferred as an umra (life grant)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Ishaq bin Abdullah bin Abi Farwah, and he is matruk (abandoned). All the hadith related to this chapter will come at the end of the chapter on inheritance (fara'id).
