وَعَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ : تُوُفِّيَ رَجُلٌ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَتَرَكَ دِينَارَيْنِ دَيْنًا عَلَيْهِ وَلَيْسَ لَهُ وَفَاءٌ فَأَبَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهِ وَقَالَ : " صَلُّوا عَلَى صَاحِبِكُمْ " . فَقَامَ أَبُو قَتَادَةَ فَقَالَ : أَنَا أَقْضِي عَنْهُ . فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ .
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: In the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), a man passed away who left behind a debt of two dinars owed by him, and there was no means of paying it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) refused to lead his funeral prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You offer the funeral prayer for your companion." Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: "I will pay it on his behalf." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and offered his funeral prayer.
