Majma al-Zawaid 4568 — Sayyiduna Abu Ubayd, the freed slave
عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ مَوْلَى رِفَاعَةَ بْنِ رَافِعٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " مَلْعُونٌ مَنْ سَأَلَ بِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ ، وَمَلْعُونٌ مَنْ سُئِلَ بِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ فَمَنَعَ سَائِلَهُ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْكَبِيرِ ، وَفِيهِ مَنْ لَمْ أَعْرِفْهُ .

Sayyiduna Abu Ubayd (may Allah be pleased with him), the freed slave of Sayyiduna Rifa'ah bin Rafi' (may Allah be pleased with him), narrated: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Accursed is the one who asks in the name of Allah, and accursed is the one who is asked in the name of Allah and does not give to the one who asks."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator whom I do not know.
