Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: A beggar came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he ordered that he be given a date. The man did not take it and showed aversion to it. Then another man came to him, and he ordered that he be given a date, and the man said: "Subhan Allah! A date from the Messenger of Allah has come my way!" Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to a slave-girl: "Go to Umm Salamah and have the forty dirhams that she has with her given to him."
Ahmad recorded it, and al-Bazzar recorded it in abridged form. Its chain contains a narrator, Umarah bin Zadhan, who is thiqah (trustworthy); there is some criticism concerning him that does no harm, and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
