Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 4527

In another narration the words are: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever begs from people without having been struck by some calamity, it is as if he is chewing an ember." Al-Tabarani recorded both narrations in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; the narrators of the first narration are the narrators of the Sahih, and the second narration contains a narrator Jabir al-Ju'fi, who has been criticised, and al-Thawri and Shu'bah declared him thiqah (trustworthy).
