Sayyiduna Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I brought some food to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while I was a slave. I said: "This is charity." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered his Companions, and they ate it, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not eat it. Then I brought food again and said: "This is a gift. I am presenting it to you as a gift so that I may honour you with it, for I have seen that you do not eat charity." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered his Companions to eat it, and he himself ate it along with them.
Ahmad and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded it; its chain contains Ibn Ishaq, who is thiqah (trustworthy) but a mudallis (one who conceals defects in the chain), and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
