Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Once I was travelling in the vicinity of Badr when a man came out of a pit with a chain around his neck. He called out to me: "O Abdullah, give me something to drink!" I did not know whether he knew my name or called me in the customary way of the Arabs. Then another man came out of that pit with a whip in his hand. He called out to me: "O Abdullah, do not give him a drink, for he is a disbeliever." Then he struck him with the whip and took him back into the pit. Then I hurried to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him about it. He asked: "Did you see him?" I said: "Yes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That was the enemy of Allah, Abu Jahl bin Hisham, and that is his punishment, which will continue until the Day of Resurrection."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Abdullah bin Muhammad bin al-Mughirah, who is da'if (weak).
